New Funding Program for Shop Top Living
A Shop Top Living program has been designed to provide financial support to property owners who have a space above their business, which could be turned into residential accommodation 'Shop Top Living Premises' in the future. Applications are open from Monday 26 August 2024 - Thursday 3 October 2024.

Project Update following EOI
Thank you to everyone who has been involved in this project.
Some of the feedback received from the Expression of Interest included:
- A concierge service offered by Council for building owners and mapping the planning process for these specific developments
- Financial incentives, something similar to the Façade Improvement Program
Ipswich City Council will continue to work closely with the businesses and building owners to support future shop top living and inner-city residential developments and enquiries.
Expression of Interest (EOI)
Ipswich City Council wanted to understand the interest in Shop Top Living in our city centre and we wanted to hear from building and commercial property owners and developers.
Shop Top living could benefit Ipswich Central in a number of ways:
- Growing the inner-city living capacity
- Encouraging activation and revitalisation of the city centre
- Supporting a night-time economy
- Improving sustainability and promoting active and public transport over car ownership
- Improving safety due to more people being around.
To help inform next steps of this project, building and commercial property owners and developers were able to complete the Expression of Interest (EOI) below.
