2024 Ipswich Art Awards

The Ipswich Art Awards are a vibrant celebration of the arts, drawing in over 1,500 enthusiastic visitors annually. As the leading visual arts award in the Ipswich region, it honours both established and emerging artists.

In 2024, we had more than 400 works submitted for judging from over 300 artists, half of whom live outside of Ipswich. Thank you to everyone who submitted an entry into the awards this year.

Winners were announced on opening night in eight categories, with artist Alethea Richter walking away with the highly desired Best of Show prize for her piece title Data Echo 7. Thank you to everyone who attended the exhibition.

About the judges

Madeline Brewer, Gallery Curator

Madeline Brewer is a curator currently managing The Condensery, a contemporary art gallery located on Dungibara Country in the Somerset region. Her experience focusses on regional arts engagement and support of emerging contemporary art practices. Her curatorial focus adopts a critical lens of place, including analysis of architectural, industrial and agricultural histories. Previously Madeline has worked in roles at Flying Arts Alliance Inc, Rockhampton Art Gallery, National Gallery of Australia and National Museum of Australia.


Lincoln Austin, Artist

Based in Ipswich, Lincoln Austin has exhibited nationally and internationally, receiving numerous grants and prizes, and participating in forums, workshops, residencies, artist talks, cultural exchanges, university teaching, and mentorships. In 2021, a 20-year survey exhibition, Lincoln Austin: The Space Between Us, was curated for Ipswich Art Gallery by Samantha Littley, Curator, Australian Art, QAGOMA. Austin has produced 18 large-scale public projects and has been awarded two prizes for Art and Architecture by the Australian Institute of Architects. Austin’s works are held in many public and private collections, including Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art.
