In 2018 the Queensland Government appointed an Interim Administrator to manage Ipswich City Council until the next council elections in 2020. In 2018 and 2019, the community were invited to speak up and have your say on how you feel about Council - particularly in relation to trust and confidence.

In order to understand your thoughts and feelings, we contracted Ipsos Social Research Institute to assist us with surveying our community. They collated all your thoughts and feelings, and reports were presented to Council to inform on key outcomes and requirements of Council leading into the 2020 elections.

OUR JOURNEY CONTINUES

By seeking your feedback and understanding the community sentiment, the Interim Administrator implemented various reforms that were harnessed under a program called VISION2020. Actioned in phases, the third phase which commenced in early 2019 saw Council use your feedback and the reports to elevate Council to a place of leading practice in local government that works with, and for, the community.

Key focus areas include:

  • Re-calibration of our community engagement activities with business and community on an operational and project basis.
  • Reforms in the key areas of Council that interact directly with Ipswich residents and ratepayers (including Councillor and Council roles and responsibilities, undertaking community engagement and Councillor conduct).
  • 18 business transformation projects (including People and Performance, Community Engagement, Information and Transparency, and Fraud and Corruption Control).
  • Key operational changes of policy, procedural and operational reforms.
  • Priority city project (including dealing with waste, upgrading key roads and commencing a new planning scheme).

More information on the VISION2020 program can be viewed here.

The current Council is committed to continuing to seek your thoughts and feedback on key plans, strategies, programs and initiatives into the future to ensure we understand what you want and plan for the future of our community and city.
