Weekend Shutdown 1

From 7pm Friday 5 April 2024 through till 5am Monday 8 April 2024, Bell Street will be closed to all traffic for the part removal of the Bell Street pedestrian overpass.

Works will include:

  • Separation overpass works where it connects with Bell Street buildings
  • Roof bracing installation
  • Asbestos removal by licensed contractors
  • Overpass and beam removal preparation.


What to expect?

  • Traffic control vehicles and controllers to direct traffic.
  • Changed traffic conditions, full lane closures of Bell Street from Brisbane Street to Union Place, Ipswich.
  • Detours provided via East Street.
  • Left turn exit access from Union Place is still in place for the duration.
  • Reduced speed limit to 40km/h around the work area. Motorists are advised to be alert and drive to the changed conditions.
  • Variable Message Board Signage (VMS) advising of changed traffic conditions.
  • No impact to Queensland Rail Services or Ipswich Train Station access.
  • Temporary bus stop closures.
  • Oversize plant and machinery within the work zone.
  • Some minor noise and dust associated with these activities. Every effort will be made to minimise these impacts.
  • Limited pedestrian access around the construction area. Temporary footpath closures near the work area will occur and alternative routes will be signed.


Temporary bus stop closures

From 8pm Friday 5 April, through till 5am 8 April 2024, some bus stops will be closed in Bell Street with these service changes:

  • Ipswich Station, stop A 318072 closed. Temporary bus stop 100m away for routes 500, 502, 503, 506, 509, 512, 514, 515.
  • Ipswich Station, stop B 318074 closed. Temporary bus stop 310563 290m away for routes 514, 515.
  • Ipswich Station stop C 318073 closed. Temporary bus stop 310563 310m away for routes 500, 502, 503, 506, 509, 512, 529.

Signage and traffic control will be in place to advise and direct commuters.
